Ed Green, a Volunteer Park Ranger with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and Isaiah Green, an independent folklorist, will lead a guided tour of Cataloochee Valley. Now part of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the valley contains numerous historic landmarks associated with the former community of Cataloochee and offers opportunities to observe an abundance of Southern Appalachian wildlife, including elk, black bears, and native brook trout. Descendants of the families who once called Cataloochee home, Ed and Isaiah will guide participants through this historic landscape while exploring its significance to the cultural and environmental heritage of Southern Appalachia.Cost: $75 covers your AFS shuttle transportation. Free admission to the National Park. Participants are responsible for their own food, beverages, and other personal expenses.
