Hand in Glove: How the Archive Meets the Repertoire in the Worlds of Puppetry Museum (10am)
Tuesday, October 21, 2025 (10:00 AM - 12:00 PM) (EDT)
Description
When a puppet enters a museum collection, it ceases to function as a performing object and becomes a material culture artifact. Yet puppets, masks, and other performing objects are repositories of stories. When puppeteers and puppetry scholars examine these artifacts in archival collections, the materials and mechanisms can reveal what the manipulation techniques were, how different characters would move, what sounds the figures would make and thus, what types of stories these objects could tell. This tour of the Worlds of Puppetry Museum will explore the restoration, reinterpretation, and reclamation of stories from folk puppet traditions all over the world.
Pre-registration is required.
There are two tours available Tuesday, one from 10-11am, one from 11am-12pm.
This registration is for the 10-11am tour.
